Riley O’Neill – Technical Director

Coach Riley O’Neill assumed the position of Technical Director at Oceanside FC in August 2023, bringing extensive experience and a proven track record in soccer development and coaching.

Originally from Campbell River, Coach Riley’s early passion for soccer led to active participation in youth soccer on Vancouver Island. Notably, he captained his high school team, becoming the first North Island representative to secure the BC Provincial AAA Championships.

His unwavering work ethic and innate talent formed the bedrock of a remarkable career, underscored by his participation in the Canadian National Team from U15 to the Men’s National Team. A car accident at age 16 altered his trajectory, leading Coach Riley to pursue higher education at the University of Kentucky, where he earned distinctions as the male athlete and rookie of the year in 2003. This paved the way for a seven-year tenure as a professional soccer player in Europe.

Coach Riley’s accomplishments extend seamlessly into his coaching career. Returning to Canada, he directed his energy towards establishing structured developmental pathways and nurturing growth within the soccer community. His coaching journey includes leading the first Island team to secure a BCSPL title, followed by an impressive three consecutive championship victories. Coach Riley orchestrated the revival of the Victoria United club, culminating in a recent league championship in the PCSL. He also played a pivotal role as Assistant Coach for Pacific FC in the Canadian Premier League, contributing to the team’s victory in the 2021 Canadian Championship.

Coach Riley envisions a future for Oceanside FC centered around progressive player development and active community engagement. His methodology emphasizes honing skills and fostering community bonds, creating a nurturing environment for players to flourish. As Technical Director, he remains committed to propelling Oceanside FC’s growth by nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

Guided by a pragmatic and results-oriented mindset, O’Neill aims to make a lasting impact as Technical Director, guiding Oceanside FC toward a future characterized by structured growth, player advancement, and enriched community involvement.

Rob McKay – Technical Staff

Rob has played competitive soccer in 3 different countries (Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica). In Canada he played for the North Delta Soccer Club before moving over to the men’s league playing for Langley United. After several years playing for Langley United, Rob began as an Assistant Coach for the Tier 3 and 4 men’s teams before working his way to a head coach position for a tier 2 youth team for 3 seasons.

Currently he plays in a casual men’s league and now coaches for Oceanside Soccer, working with competitive teams & recreational teams.

Dylan Hermann – Goalkeeper Training Lead

Dylan grew up in Nanoose Bay and spent the first part of his youth soccer career with OYSS and then moved on to the Nanaimo Metro League sides. He was an avid student of Shel Brodsgaard and attended Island Keeper Clinics throughout his development as a goalkeeper, eventually becoming a youth coach for IKC. Dylan also spent two seasons in the USL Super-Y development league playing for FC Victoria and competing against development sides from throughout western North America.

This brought about an opportunity to travel overseas and train with the first team of Sheffield Wednesday FC in the English Championship. As an adult, Dylan has spent time in the VISL with teams such as Nanaimo United, Cowichan FC, and Arrowsmith/Alberni Athletics. He is a certified athletic therapist with the CATA and currently resides in Parksville with his family.
